Birth Doula Insurance Reimbursement

 

One

Full payment should be received for services.

Two

You will receive a receipt from me which will include:

  • Doula name & company address

  • Doula’s social security / taxpayer ID number / NPI number

  • Diagnosis Code

    • V22.2, intrauterine pregnancy

    • V24.2, routine postpartum follow up

  • CPT Code for services rendered

    • Labor Support (99499)

    • Postpartum Care (99501, 99502)

  • Taxonomy Code

  • Stars Above Birth Services Business Tax ID

  • Date & Location the services were provided

  • Doula’s Signature

  • Mothers full name

  • Total amount for services provided

  • Dates & amounts of payments

  • Payment method

Three

Submit our invoice with a claim form from your insurance company / flex spending. Contact the claims department.

 

Four

Upon receipt of payment, I will include additional documents that you can provide to your insurance company, which includes:

  • DONAs Position Paper

  • A letter addressed to the CEO of the insurance company explaining why you needed the doula services and how it was beneficial to your physical and mental health.

  • A copy of my certification, credentials, and relevant experience.

Five

Your insurance company should follow-up with you within a month with a response that states:

  • They will need additional information to process claim

  • This is not covered under your insurance

Six

It’s OK. We can try again! Prepare a second packet of documents to resubmit to your insurance company for a secondary review.

  • Address the packet to the CEO of the insurance company.

 
 

Seven

If they still refuse to pay, we will submit a letter to Human Services requesting to review your medical claim and we will include an explanation of how it was a cost-effective service and include we will include the systematic review article of the benefits of doula services

Eight

If your claim is denied at any point, call your insurance company and ask specific questions as to why your claim was denied. if they refer directly to your policy, ask them what clause and what wording in your policy excludes doula services. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am nothing less than persistant and will not back down when passionate about a cause. My goal is to have most of what you need, right from the start.
